Owner/ Principal Designer
Store Manager/Interior Decorator
Driven by all aspects of creativity, Betty’s belief, design approach and passion is to create a highly personalized space that invokes feelings of serenity and joy in one’s home. With a philosophy of client-collaborated approach she delivers warm, modern classic interiors. Having attended Seneca College Fashion Design Arts Program, the segue into home design was natural. As an artist who has collaborated with other artists to create murals and decorative paint treatments, Betty has an understanding of colour combinations which has led her to being a colour consultant – a key factor when transforming environments.
Additionally, floral arranging is a passion as it combines the elements of texture and colour drawn from Nature, enhanced by studying the art of Japanese floral design which taught her how to create florals that feel alive.
Understanding textiles, colour coordination and proportion, Betty sees projects from an artists’ perspective.
With more than 30 years of extensive design and home furnishings experience, she has the skill and ability to envision the whole project in its completion.
Due to her breadth of experience, Betty brings a variety of perspectives to each project, all driven by creativity.
Great designs begin with a comprehensive understanding of clients’ needs and expectations. Elizabeth’s ability to develop client relationships based on respect, trust, and confidence has been the key to her success as a designer.
Skilled at creating beautiful designs under a variety of budgets, styles, timeframes, and requirements, Elizabeth guides her clients through every phase of the design process, as she is committed to cultivating valued relationships and helping clients reach the best version of their overall vision whether it be a single room, the main floor, or the entire house.
Elizabeth moved to Canada in 2007 following a career in design that ranged from working with architectural firms in NYC to small design houses in Virginia.
Regardless of location, her mission is to assist her clients in creating timeless spaces, whether classic or contemporary, across a vast range of styles, Elizabeth balances colours, textures, and lighting to create environments which reflect her clients’ personalities and suit their design needs. With experience working in collaboration with architects and builders to execute her vision,
Elizabeth relishes every aspect of the design process.
Elizabeth earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from West Virginia University in 1987 and has been involved in design, renovation and new builds in Virginia, Colorado, Louisiana, and New York City. Now in Canada, Elizabeth is excited to bring her experience to you and your home.
After graduating from Vassar College in NY with a degree in Art History, I began working for Tiffany & Co. in NYC. I then moved to Canada to open and manage Tiffany Boutiques within Holt Renfrew stores. After that, I went to Indigo Books to start their home/gift and paper business. From there I took on the role of V.P. of Home at Joseph Mimran and Associates. Most recently (for the last 15 years), I had my own art and antique business, Michael Thomas, in Port Hope and Hamilton. I specialized in contemporary fine art and mid-century furniture. I’ve always enjoyed working with seniors, and last year I received my certificate in Senior Living Management from Cornell University. One of the courses which I found very rewarding was Designing for Seniors. I’m excited about my new chapter with Rousseau’s and looking forward to using the design skills I’ve honed through schooling and in my previous positions to help my clients create rooms and homes they love.
