We all have certain types of patterns we are inherently drawn to time and time again (and others that make us run in the opposite direction.)
Gaining an awareness of the designs that consistently bring you joy can help you develop an everlasting, cohesive signature style – and lose the headache of trying to reinvent the wheel each time you decorate.
These are four pattern styles that we have loved for as long as we can remember, and continue to incorporate in our own homes as well as our client projects.
Menswear
Menswear inspired prints will never ever go out of style. Plaids, checks, pinstripes, houndstooth – they are classic, sophisticated, and easy to live with for even the most pattern-phobic. These prints offer an air of comfortable nostalgia, are relaxed yet tailored and elegant. Most often seen in deep and muted tones, a menswear inspired motif can bring a sense of groundedness and structure to your space.

Botanical
Similar but not quite the same as floral print, botanicals tend to focus on realistic leafy images that make you feel as though you are sitting amongst a lush garden. These prints depict flowers, leaves, trees, fruits, or vines with an emphasis on realism as opposed to artistic interpretation – a nature lovers dream.

Animal
Differing from animal print, animal patterns depict a variety of animals in their entire form as opposed to just the pattern of their fur/skin. There’s something unabashedly fun and cheeky about this style of print. Ranging from moody and gothic to campy and whimsical, there’s certainly a creature to suit almost every space.
